Speech Language Pathologists

To help remedy the shortages of speech language pathologists (SLPs) in the state’s developmental preschools, the University of Wyoming and CDS have teamed up to offer an SLP Employment Incentives Program. The Daniels Fund and the Wyoming Developmental Disabilities Division provide grants to support the endeavor.

A professional speech pathologist at the developmental preschool mentors the student. The $1,650 stipend covers the student’s housing rental and out-of-pocket expenses for the three months of the externship.

After completion of the externship, a graduating student will receive a $3,450 employment incentives package if she decides to start her professional career at a developmental preschool. The funds underwrite the costs of continuing educational opportunities for three years for the new employee, as well as covering the expense of acquiring her advanced certification in the field.

Professor Lynda Coyle, who directs the UW SLP graduate program, works with the CDS office in selecting the recipients of these financial incentives. Those who wish additional information about this endeavor should contact the CDS office or Professor Coyle.
